The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women is an international convention adopted in 1979 by the United Nations General Assembly and came into force on September 3, 1981. It.reaffirms faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person and in the equal rights of men and women. The convention proclaims that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity, rights, and that everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth therein, without distinction of any kind, including distinction based on sex. It ensures equal right of men and women to enjoy all economic, social, cultural, civil and political rights.
