The International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) was adopted in 1966. This Covenant is one of the basic documents contained in the International Bill of Human Rights. The covenant includes some of the following rights:
- right to food;
- right to work;
- right to housing; and
- right to education.
The implementation of these rights require financial and material resources which might not necessarily be directly available. As such, the implementation of these economic, social and cultural rights can only be undertaken progressively in some countries.
