Earth Rights International is a non governmental, non profit group of people which includes lawyers, activists and organizers who stand for earth rights. They specialize in fact finding, legal actions against perpetrators of earth rights abuses, training common people about their earth rights and remedies, and advocacy campaigns from local to international level. They are at the forefront of the movement to hold corporations accountable for fair human rights, labor and environmental practices.
In order to break the cycle of corruption, poverty, human rights and environmental abuses, transparency and disclosure of extractive industry revenue contracts, payments, and receipts by companies, governments, and international financial institutions is necessary. ERI supports mandatory transparency disclosure requirements in the extractive sector, and works with organizations and governments to accomplish this important goal.
EarthRights International joined the publish what you pay U.S. in recognition of the crucial role that resource related revenue transparency plays in good governance and the protection of human rights and the environment. It also partnered with the Centre for Economic and Social Rights, a human rights non governmental organization, in running the Amazon School for Human Rights and Environment.
